However, you should be able to push through the early and mid-game content without needing them. Unfortunately, the only real tank Esper options early in the game are Li Ao and Bardon, neither of which inspire confidence. This is the best way to guarantee an Esper that can manipulate the speed at which Espers act in battle early in the game. As long as you join a Club early, you can use your Club Points to guarantee to get solid three-star Controller in Melanie. However, it is advisable to dabble in SPD and AP manipulation, as these become crucial beyond the mid-game point of experience. The support Espers you use will depend on your play style, so you should experiment to find your own pace. Berenice is also useful in squads when tackling the boss Fafnir, even at high levels, so she is a solid choice to invest in early on. None of them are strong healers or shielders on their own, but two combined should keep your team alive. If you don’t get Chang Pu, you may need to rely on a combination of Berenice, Lauren and Helena. She has group and individual heals and can cast Immunity on your whole squad, which blocks debuffs. She is a very solid healer who can support you through all the early to mid-game content, and is well worth taking all the way to level 60. While you’re not guaranteed a good healer early in the game, your first few ten-pulls from the Echo are likely to reward you with the basic three-star Esper Chang Pu.
